Newcastle Podcast Festival announced for February 2021

The countdown has officially begun. Less than a month is left before the first Newcastle podcast festival.

From February 19 to 21, Newcastle's Digital Library on Stewart Avenue will host a series of informative workshops and discussions to educate New Austrians about all about podcasting.

A podcast, for those not in the know, is a series of spoken words on any topic. The digital audio file is streamed and can be downloaded by the listener through the device. In particular, podcasts about true crimes have become popular in recent years and have even led to criminal cases.

In fact, the investigative journalism program for the murder of a teenage girl in Baltimore, Maryland was a turning point in the development of the podcast. The corresponding podcast has been downloaded millions of times.

The word podcast is associated with a combination of the words iPod and broadcast.

Earlier this year, Newcastle Podcast Station was named the Best Podcast Studio in New South Wales at the 2021 APACE Australian Enterprise Awards. Melanie Sargent, owner of Newcastle Podcast Station and director of the Newcastle Podcast Festival, said it was a huge honor.
I was contacted unexpectedly to say that we were nominated and then to say that we won the award.

At the end of last year, we were too busy to provide any evidence to prove we were worthy, but I am encouraged that their research showed that we were on the edge of money, she says.

I am also proud to be a New Austrian and have beaten all the opponents from the capital.

The festival caters to people who want to know how to access podcasts of interest; for those who want to gain confidence and stand behind the microphone; and today's pod casters looking to get more attention or use it to make money.
